RE:      Urging the Legislature to Immediately Address Interpreter Licensure

Dear [Senator/Assemblyman/Assemblywoman] [Last name of legislator]:

I am writing to urge the state Legislature to act immediately on the issue of sign language interpreter licensure (2009 SB 389) in Wisconsin.  Interpreter credentialing is one of the major issues deaf and hard of hearing citizens face in this state.  We seek to improve our satisfaction with and trust in the interpreting community.

Wisconsin needs an effective sign language interpreter licensure system that supports a higher quality of interpreting services between deaf and hard of hearing citizens and their hearing counterparts.  The first important step to reach this goal is for the state Legislature to meet to address the interpreter licensure bill.

Thank you for your attention to this critical issue.  Wisconsin’s deaf and hard of hearing citizens need immediate action on sign language interpreter licensure.

Sincerely,
